MVSD School Resource Officers Parah and Scott have released safety guidance on electric cycles in response to their growing popularity among students. Under Vermont law, E-Bikes, which have pedals and assist up to 28 mph, are permitted on public roads and the Rail Trail, though students under 16 may not operate Class 3 models. E-Motos, which are throttle-only and can exceed 28 mph, are classified as motor vehicles and require a license, registration, and insurance; they are prohibited on sidewalks and shared paths, with fines up to $392. On school grounds, E-Motos are strictly prohibited, while E-Bikes are permitted for commuting but must be walked on school sidewalks. Riding on athletic fields, trails, or parking lots is not allowed, and unsafe operation will result in loss of riding privileges.
